Task 1 - Serengeti Searching Bush Babies

Team Mascot: Bush Baby

Our mascot is the Bush Baby, which we have chosen not only because of its extreme cuteness, but also because of its striking resemblance to us and the way it represents a true savanna warrior. First of all, the bush baby is found in Africa, and well, we are traveling in Africa. Secondly, though these creatures are tiny, they have a very intense vocal abilities, and though we're not constantly shrieking, we do enjoy a good loud shrill cry every now and then, just like the Bush Baby. Like an eagle (which we all are of course), the Bush Baby can practically fly, as it soars through the air, jumping from tree to tree. As for being a warrior, the Bush Baby is considered one of the most successful primates because of its long life span and unique hunting capabilities. It can jump more than 20 feet at one time, and can therefore travel 10 yards in a matter of seconds. With its long powerful tail, it can escape predators, as well as catch prey. The success of the Busy Baby represents the success our team is going to have on this safari adventure.

Team Motto: "Alone we are small, together we are strong."

This motto is based around the tiny size of the Lesser Galago (aka "Bush Baby"). These are very small, primitive primates that generally live in close family units. When they sleep, however, many different family units come together for protection. Though individually, a bush baby is only about the size of a squirrel, as a huge group, predators do not disturb them. They present a strong, unified front, despite being of so many different origins. This coming together for a common goal is what our summer camp group has done. Though we many not have known each other before and we came from far flung places, together we can and will achieve more than any one of us could do alone.

Ten Items:

1. Air Bison Whistle (from Avatar: The Last Airbender series)
Only air bison can hear the sound of this whistle, and so we will call any air bison to us. Admittedly, they were all but extinct long ago, so we may have to deal with the fact we just stole the Avatar's air bison, but he could be a powerful ally. The air bison is a huge woolly animal that flies and could carry our group with ease.

2. Well-stocked wizard tent (includes removable mosquito netting over all the beds, as well as clean running water and cooking facilities)
We would sleep, live, prepare food and relax here, when we can't take the African sun anymore., as well as store all of our belongings. This "home away from home" would not be complete without our school desks and equipment: Don't want to fall behind!

3. Umbrella
To use as a source of shade when walking in low vegetation areas, coverage from possible rain, and, upturned, it would make an excellent life boat in high-water areas or in case of flash floods.

4. Camera (*w/ film or digital)
To capture the fun and exciting memories of our African safari and to take pictures of the mystery animal once we find it. Also, to send pictures home and to our friends who couldn't make it to camp.

5. Omnioculars
To see animals at a closer view without having to get close enough to disturb them, and to be able to see fast-moving things in nature at a slower, easier to watch pace. They will help us look for the animal.

6. Magic Conch
A wondrous conch shell with a pull cord. Just simply ask a yes or no question, such as "Should we go left or right?" and the magical conch shell shall reply, saving us the hard work of deciding. Of course, blindly following the conch could put us into predicaments as well, but if it likes us, we should be fine.

7. Duct Tape
A roll of shiny, sticky tape that has numerous uses. It makes a very strong rope that is good for tying, hanging, or swinging. It can also be used to make items such as bags and shoes. Also good for restraining hyper team members. Duct tape can also be formed into an excellent bludgeoning weapon or splint and sling if someone gets hit with said bludgeoning weapon (or receives a similar injury and no one brought any Skele-gro).

8. Zoe's scary friend Anthony (breaks out into random strange noises and is scary)
To scare away mean animals, attract meaner ones, and annoy the other groups so they make mistakes. Good for frightening away bothersome animals or people, and also fun to poke at in times of boredom. Also very good at story telling, and problem solving, although it may be difficult to drag him along with us.

9. Levitating walkway
A walkway that allows us to walk above the natural ground and let us see and enjoy nature's beauty without disturbing anything in the habitat. This pathway is also transparent, so we can stand directly above something that we wish to observe without crushing it.

10. Sneakoscope
To warn us when any enemies or untrustworthy animals are near so we have time to run before being attacked. Also, to sense opposing team members so we can send Anthony to chase them away.
