Task 1 - The Time Machine

Second Place - Time Flyers

Name: ‘Tree House’

It is built in such a way, that other people will not suspect this to actually be a time machine.

Yes, it is also situated on top of a big oak tree. Furthermore, only official members of the Time Flyers will be allowed to climb up the ladder hanging at the side of this tree house. This is guaranteed by our password, which we will, of course, never disclose to anyone outside our group.

But most importantly, no one will suspect that this is our time machine, because from the outside it looks like just another tree house.

Whenever it is time to go on a journey the members will gather in this Tree House which is filled with sophisticated and up to date technology, computers and gadgets to facilitate their time travelling. As the "Time Flyers" consist of four members, there are only 4 seats available, leaving plenty of room for the gadgets, not to mention room for the all-important food to be placed in the tree house as well.

To give you a more detailed picture of the inside of our time machine, imagine four plush seats, each in a different colour, green for the captain, blue for the co-captain, green for the steward and yellow for the technician. These seats are surrounded by the controls that each person needs, such as a screen showing the captains log which gets updated everytime we visit a new place and time, obviously by the captains seat, lots of maps which are visible to everyone, but used mostly by the co-captain, as she would be doing the navigating, not to forget the huge encyclopedia, featuring every tiem and place available to travel to. The gadgets include time crystals, compasses, and lots of control sets featuring various coordinates, placed appropriately around the seats of course.

Also, most importantly, for the relaxing bit of any journey, or after any journey, there is a ginormous television screen, featuring slide shows of every trip we took together, automatically taken photos of course and any movie you could wish for. To top it all off, there are lots of cupboards along two sides fo the Tree House, filled with whatever food we crave at that very moment, no matter where we are, when we are, how we are... You get the picture

Before travelling, we always need to set the coordinates that we want to go to on the computer and press some buttons, then pull a lever and we will set off to our destination in time.

The leaves will began to sway and the wind will blow. Soon our Tree House will just spin faster and faster and will just stop and land, usually on top of a tree when we reached our destination. The time, year and coordinates will be shown on the computer screen so that we will know in which time zone we have landed. All we have to do then, is bring our knapsack and climb down the ladder to explore the surroundings.

It's definitely a good way to disguise your time machine as a tree house so you can keep it lying around without no one knowing what it really is! I also like the description of the inside, sounds mighty comfortable there. One thing I'm curious though; what if you land somewhere with no trees? *g* - 20 TC

Time Flyers 23: I love the creativity of the idea. Who'd have thought of a tree house just like that? The inside is a tad bit fluffy in my opinion, but whoever said realism was a requirement? - 23 TC

Very interesting indeed... although I'm not sure how practical it would be to bring a whole tree, it certainly helps to disguise your time machine. - 20 TC

Third Place - Dalek Deities

There are two pictures of our time machine as well as another picture with labels.

Our time machine is a fusion of two important aspects of our team: Dalek (team name) and Ancient Greece (team’s favorite era). The machine’s name is Khronos because Chronos is the god of time in Greek mythology and we thought it was an appropriate name for a time machine. Plus, Khronos is the Latin form and can you get much cooler than Latin? We think not! From the exterior, the time machine looks like a Dalek, to honor our name, but it is blue and white (colors of the Greek flag) and it has olive branches on the top of its head, both being representative elements of Greek culture. If you look carefully, you will find a button on the outside, that when pushed it causes the time machine to shrink, allowing us to hide it in our pockets so it doesn’t call the attention of people and so we can carry it with us wherever we go as well. Don't worry though, the button won't work if any of us are inside. A while back we had a slight mishap with that and ended up shrinking Gus along with Khronos. While having a mini-Gustavo was fun, we decided to fix that button. If you pull down an arm of the Dalek, a secret door will be revealed. That is the entrance of the time machine. From the inside, the time machine is a very comfortable place. It is full of Greek elements, like architecture, statues of Greek gods (and daleks of course), columns and fountains. There is also a small kitchen, where only Greek food is served. On the center of the machine there is a kind of keyboard with the Greek alphabet on it. Using that keyboard you type your destination, specifying year and place of where you wish to go, and the time travel begins!

I love the first picture, and those are some great drawings too, and I'm glad to see your time machine representing your team's identity well. And that bit about mini-Gus did make me laugh. The description is rather short though, wish I could have seen and learned more about the time machine. Good job regardless! - 18 TC

I quite like it. Nice picures. Nice that there were two pictures instead of just one. - 20 TC

Nice mix of creativity and mythology. I also liked the inclusion of multiple pictures. - 20 TC
